well, the msrp for …
well, the msrp for the base model 2007 GT500 is actually just over $42000 after the GG tax. and the STI base msrp is $35,600 so youre looking at a $6400 difference and with that $6400 saved, the STI can bolt up a bigger turbo, full exhaust and enginemanagment and still have some left over for more gas, tires, and a few different dyno tunes which will take that mustang to the glue factory. so IMO the STI is still the better buy.

What a rediculous comparision….two completely different cars….how about comparing a STi to RS2000….good luck Subaru.

I listened closely …
I listened closely this time, and realized the guy is certainly biased toward the Subaru. But listen, I’m a mustang guy, all the way, own a ‘04 Kenne Bell Cobra, but, at just under 40k, the Shelby GT500 fits directly into that category, IMHO, they chose the very rare, standard Shelby simply to make the subaru shine. I admit, the subaru is far superior to a standard mustang GT, which is all the Shelby GT is, performance wise. But, at that price, they should have tested the GT500, which would win.

HypnoticSuggestion:

How many people …
How many people realize that they’re trying to play it off like it’s a GT500, the regular Shelby GT has around 20HP more than the STI, and weighs more. They’re two different cars built for two different kinds of people, and two entirely different styles of driving. If you want to compare by price, fairly, compare the STI to the Shelby GT500, and watch it get smoked, badly. And “Scarlettfloods617″, you’re just full of it, any car can last that long if maintained, such comments make u look stupid.

This argument is done because,1. I’m right. 2. It’s useless arguing with a white trash for brains, who obviously got there grammar skills from so many years of “higher education” When was the last time you saw a ford with more than 250,000 miles, and was still running? case closed.

Yeah, the SPT short …
Yeah, the SPT short ram air intake is definitely shorter than the stock intake. Perhaps the person who explained the benefit of it to me was full of BS - I’ve mostly heard they are fairly worthless and the only reason my 01 Impreza RS has it is because the original owner put it on and I haven’t gotten to replacing it w/ a CAI yet. I wouldn’t have guessed it would shorten turbo lag, though. Doesn’t matter for me as I am driving an NA RS. Interesting info about the air jumping over the scoop too.

Ok why are they …
Ok why are they comparing the two. This is a horrible pair up. Try the GT 500 to the sti. Ther sti is amazing and personally as both a sti and mustang lover that shelby GT is just a scheme for shelby to get more people buying shelbys. Horrible mistake just to make more money.

Swagman00:

To own a Shelby …
To own a Shelby that “increases” power from 300 to 319 HP then is decorated with few cosmetic changes yet you pay 15 grand more then a stock GT is a poor deal IMO. If you’re going to own a quick mustang, buy a 500 or buy the GT and mod it with the 15k you saved. You’re paying for the name and not the performance with an entry model.

what the crap are …
what the crap are you talking about? im on my second subaru but im sorry to say they dont offer litchfields in the US. oooo wow you live in the UK whats your point? after re reading your comment im trying to figure out why owning a litchfield makes you feel superior. you clearly do not know much about subarus. i currently have my 07 sti and have driven the new mustang. i dont think it matters what year sti you have… the stang doesnt stand a chance. better luck next time… sport.

exactly, the scoop …
exactly, the scoop would have to be up much higher like you see with funny cars. John Delorian, who helped create the GTO, before the debunked Delorian, said that the hood scoops on the GTO were pretty much for looks, and didnt give any acknowledged performance increase. But they look cool, so GM puts them on just about everything and Ford still puts them there, but blocks them off. Cowel induction is said to work because of the low pressure under the hood, but i dont know much about that.

September 25th, 2008 | 12:59 am
Ambroseburn:

Doesn’t air that …
Doesn’t air that hits the front of the hood rise up suddenly? Doesn’t that mean that it passes hood scoops. the scoop would have to be placed in a low pressure area or at the very front of the hood to work wouldn’t it?
